Meet the deadly Portuguese Man O War!

Over the past couple weeks, record numbers of these curious creatures have been reported. Strong westerly winds have brought them from across the atlantic, so far washing up along our shorelines in the southwest. The news has been widely shared across the country,  so what’s the fuss all about?

Swimming or surfing is best avoided during the mass beach strandings like seen at Perranporth. Their venomous tentacles can grow tens of meters long, so if you do meet one in the water, swim up current of the float. Send in sighting reports online at http://www.mcs.org.uk
