The only honey-making bee!

Did you know that there is only one species of honeybee in the UK? The Western Honeybee is completely unique amongst 250 species of bees in our country, including 25 types of bumblebee, and many many solitary and mining bee species! So why does this species make honey?

You can see that from a safe distance, the bees are perfectly harmless. Though the longer I stuck around, the more activity there was around the hive as all the bees kept watch on me! So if you do find a colony, just ‘BEE-ware’ that you’re not agitating them too much and step away if you think they’re getting a bit too close.
